~*Species :: Posted as of 02.26.06*~

There are several species found in my writing and art. These are the Delphin, the Lupino, the Feln, and the Avizon.

You will notice I capitalize all of these names. This is just one of my preferences. Please respect that. Also, not that each species type is it's own plural form. The short reason for this is that there is less to have to add to my dictionary.

Before I describe the species, I would like to repeat a statement I made in a journal entry a few years ago: You do not require my permission to create your own character to fit into my story world, or even just a character for fun. All I really ask is that you tell me where the work has been posted, and that you credit me as the creator of the particular species. This is properly accomplished as "(species) is the intellectual property of Ashley "Snowhawk" Venable." This may change as I begin work on some legal processes.

I do not claim to have drawn or written the first equi-morph, or wolf morph, or whatever. But the species I have developed over the past five and a half years do have specific criteria. What follows is a general guide line. Feel free to contact me with questions or suggestions at snowhawk @ avenstudios . net (remove the spaces).

All morphic species are polymorphic, with a limited number of forms. The average number is three, but can go as high as fifteen in the oldest Delphin.

Delphin are equine anthropomorphs. They are the most advanced, and most common in my writing, as far as development goes.

Types of equine base follow all real and and several mythical types. Mythics are unicorn, pegasi, and alicorn types, with other types suggested (such as the hippocampus). Real types include zebra, donkeys, and such.

Delphin go through "phase shifts", which is somewhat akin to an overnight adolescence (they're born at Phase 0). Like people, these shifts happen according to the Delphin's personal environment and their genetics. Unlike humans, they happen, at longest, over the course of about five days. There has been some suggestion of a "half" shift, where a Delphin will change slightly, then some months later change again. More information about the shifts can be found here.

Average lifespan is between four thousand and five thousand years.

(... And yes, I know that the world Delphin means dolphin in German, and probably several other languages.)

--

The second most common would be the Lupino.

These are mainly wolf types, but pretty much any type of fox, dog, or comparible mythic (kitsune, for example), are grouped in here.

While they may have fur changes over the years, there are no suggestions of phase shifts, like in the Delphin.

Average life span is between one thousand and fifteen hundred years.

---

Feln are a distant third, and most that I write are either bit parts, or another morphic's form.

They are a feline type, and range from the largest of the big cats to domestic house cats. Long, medium, and short coats are all known.

Their life spans cover the widest range, from a mere hundred years to well over three thousand.

---

The most uncommon morphic species I have named, and write with, is the Avizon.

They were orignally best described as feathered lizards, thought I have modified the species to be more of a draconic species with equine tendancies. The ratio of dragon to equine varies with each individual.

They are somewhat like Vampires in that they feed off the lives of others, but it's not necessarily in the form of blood. Some exist simply off the energy other's expend, and there are suggestions of a few individuals that have overcome this need entirely.

Life spans are unknown, but possibly long enough to be considered immortal.

***

There are also Vampires in the world I write, though they aren't the standard horror movie vamp. They are simply extremly long lived, but not truly immortal. They will eventually die.

They are also extremly resillant, being able to recover from something like a loss of limb (and some of the oldest able to slowly regenerate, if they don't bleed to death first).

They turn their victims with a toxin, but only one Vampire's toxin can exist in an individual. If another Vampire bites a victim, that being can actually be saved, as long as the second bite happens with in twelve hours. Of course, there is a risk there, in that the second vampire introduces more toxin, or too little, that the victim will not be "cured", but gain some of the better qualities. However, they will still be forced to slowly change into a Vampire over their lifespan. The process is not painless, either the orignal bite, or the saving, and the victims are usually put to sleep by the biting Vampire, should the Vampire actually care about the one they've bitten.

They can also inject just a very small amount of the toxin, no where near enough to even cause a slow change, and control that being. They have the ability to speak into the minds of those they have bitten, and the oldest do not require that connection.

Typically, a full Vampire can, after some fifty years, go out into the light after sunset and before sunrise. As they age, they can spend more and more time out, eventually being able to walk among the other beings, with no fear of the light.
